Inspiration
I would like to discuss my experience and the inspiration I got from my father. I am so blessed to have a father who knows the value of education and who gave me the opportunity to learn. My father told me that he would do everything within his power to give me an education and he said to me “I am not a millionaire but I have some money to send you to school. The house I have will be left to your mother when I die but the heritage I will give to you is education so that you will be able to look after yourself”. He told me this scripture “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him forever." Education is the key to self-determination. Education was not a problem for me. I went to primary school, secondary school, college and University and I always knew that I would get my degree through my hard work but for other people this is not always the case. I know that there is an extreme lack of educational opportunity for many children especially in Bukavu (DRC) and this makes me unhappy. I would like to see the opportunities that I had given to other children too. My father always told me that people are not born intelligent but become intelligent through hard work. If you fail at school this does not mean that you are stupid.

It means you need to put more effort into your studies and ask questions if you do not understand. This is the sensible option. People who fail sometimes can succeed in the end. People who get into trouble can always improve their behaviour. You need to have a goal and achieve that goal through education. Every child has something to offer and something they are good at. If you want to be a Professor you need a good education, there are no short cuts. Sometimes people dream of being rich without any hard work. This will not happen unless you win the lottery. All children deserve a safe environment in which to study and learn and if they put in the hard work they can succeed. You need to develop your talents so you may be able to help to solve some problems for your family and your country. If you are quiet and make no effort at school you do not just let yourself down but your family and your country too. Make sure you do your homework on time, read your books and do not spend too much time watching television or playing football. No one will write your destiny, you write your destiny by yourself. I am also working hard to contribute to your schools fees and all the equipment you need to learn and make progress in whatever you resolve to do. I want you to commit to it and really work at it.
